Vanderbilt Carriage House at Bogue Chitto Estate

The Second Annual Designer Showhouse is well underway in Bar Harbor.

This year's property, chosen by The Swan Agency Sotheby's International Realty, is located in Hulls Cove, Bar Harbor - across from the main entrance to Acadia National Park Visitor's Center.

The Bogue Chitto estate's mansion was torn down years ago (see photo below) but the Carriage House remains as the only historical building on the property.

Stay tuned for lots of updates and build up to the opening in mid July 2014.

  1. I stayed at "Bogue Chitto", visiting my grandmother, "Gransie" each summer for about 6 years, from 1934 to 1940. Gordon Lawrence Mills, now 81 (born 1933), grandson of Alice Vanderbilt Sheppard (Mrs. Dave Hennen Morris). I remember playing on the beach, and sailing with my grandfather in his yatch, called the "Daydreamer". The captain's name was "Preston", I recall. At each meal, Gransie would speak a phrase in Esparnato, alanguage to foster harmony between people from different countries.

  2. Thank you for sharing these memories. Sometimes we stand at the shore, looking at the ruins of the arched foundation walls and imagine what the house and being there was like. Sounds like it was everything we could imagine and more.
